I’m here at the peacetime conservatism summit
Up first is Evan McMullin, with a remarkably tedious speech that would be appropriate for a 9th grade civics class
“We are loyal to principles first above all - principles before party, principles before any man or woman.”

This is the opposite of loyalty

Loyalty is one thing you feel towards people

And @EvanMcMullin, like many leftists, apparently would put principles above his own family
Now @HeathMayo is frustrated that our politics is “personality-driven” rather than “principles-driven”

Weird - given that multiple panelists have indicated they would vote for Bernie Sanders to defeat Trump
First panel: @SykesCharlie, @BillKristol, @monacharenEPPC, @RameshPonnuru, @Peterwehner3

Sykes kicks it off by lamenting the “crazies” that have taken over the party

So much for no name-calling!
Mona Charen is now speaking, also quite tediously

It’s pretty obvious why Donald Trump wrested control of the GOP from these people
Hey - @RameshPonnuru makes a good point!

He notes that people often fall into the trap of thinking “our opponents lack principles,” when really they just have different principles

And calls out #NeverTrump for this very mistake

Credit where due
Pete Wehner calls the current leaders of the GOP “avatars for disinformation”

More name-calling
Now @BillKristol is up - he talks about having been to “many #NeverTrump summits that were much smaller than this one.”

There are only 250 people here
Kristol criticizes the “boastful patriotism” of the Trump movement

Almost like he’s not a fan of the American people
