While we're at it, why not abandon all those pesky red seal thingies tradespeople have to get? Building a bridge? Just hire a bunch of guys who are unemployed and will work for cheap. They can draw straws to see who gets to design the construction. 2/4
And all those inspections? Those inspectors get paid too much, amiright? Health inspectors, construction inspectors, food inspectors, water inspectors, workplace health and safety regs... All RED TAPE - cut cut cut! 3/4
After all, as Jason Kenney and Doug Ford and the rest of their ilk would say, plain old common sense is as good as any edumacation.

Today at hockey I had a chat with a team-mate, an ER doctor. She is some kind of pissed off at the UCP. She said the reduction in pay for doctors who work in hospitals didn't bug her as much, although it doesn't take into account the stress ER and ICU doctors face...#AbLeg 1/20
But the things they have done with billing for complex care patients is unconscionable. She deals on a daily basis with patients she has never seen before who present with incredibly complex constellations of conditions... 2/20
You get patients who are non-verbal, with diabetes, muscular dystrophy, and heart disease, who now have something new, for example. 3/20

Something a lot of people may not know about me is I am really, really into genealogy. So, last week I was tracing one branch of the family and I noticed something that seemed odd. 1/15 #cdnhealth #epidemics #medicine #History
Adult siblings and cousins were losing family members over a certain time period. One fellow lost his wife and their three children over the winter of 1848/49. Then another in this family lost two children, same time frame. 2/15
Now, when you see the deaths of a mother and infant, you are liable to assume it was complications of childbirth. Infant and maternal mortality rates were much higher back then. But then you see the 3 y/o, 5 y/o, and 7 y/o also died.... It had to be something else. 3/15

@AlbertaatNoon There seems to be a pattern emerging. The UCP appoints these panels to study certain issues, like SCSs, health care, etc, and the panel returns a report that validates the UCP's ideological position and provides justification for their plans. 1/5
I think it would be very interesting to see what direction was given to each panel in terms of scope, and results expected/desired. In other words, to what extent is the UCP telling these panels what to find? 2/5
I have a background in research, and I know while there is good empirical research possible, I also know that some "research" findings are tailored to please the client. 3/5

After all, he was the one who failed to reappoint two highly qualified women to the ATRF Board in December. Including one who was the only Board Member with an accounting designation. (Which, I can tell you from personal experience, is important for a pension board.) #ABLeg
And, instead appointed a man without an accounting designation, without a CFA, and without any DB pension experience at all. For the pension board of a profession that has a majority of women...

- Changing how radiologists are paid in Alberta
- hiring more FT, fewer PT registered nurses
- More outsourcing of lab services

Catching up on a Facebook Live event held earlier tonight with Alberta Premier Jason Kenney. (Replay: facebook.com/search/top/?q=…) In it, he says (~6:00 mark) unions heading to arbitration are asking for 6-7 per cent pay increases. First time I've heard that stat. #ableg #canlab
Kenney says: "Those unions have come forward in those arbitrations to ask for six and seven per cent pay increases. Now, you tell me, who in the private sector i looking at a six- or seven-per-cent increase this year?" #ableg #canlab
If the government allowed that to happen, Kenney says, they would have to cut health and education and would have to raise taxes significantly. "Union bosses" asking for a six or seven per cent raise this year is "out of touch with reality," Kenney said. #ableg
