Tonight on @abc730 @leighsales asked some serious questions of Scott Morrison on #climatechange. However, there are some additional questions it would have been great if she'd asked...

THREAD
#auspol #ClimateCrisis
@abc730 @leighsales 1. You talk about not wanting anyone to lose their job - what about the thousands of people who are losing their job in the #renewables industry right now due to the lack of policy certainty and the lack of a plan to decarbonise our electricity sector? Do their jobs not count?
@abc730 @leighsales 2. Scientists say that your current plan to cut emissions by 2030 will lead to warming of more than 3 degrees - much higher than the Paris targets - what is the cost of more than 3degrees of warming to the Australian economy?
@abc730 @leighsales 3. Scientists say that a only 2degrees of warming most of the Great Barrier Reef will be gone. What about the tens of thousands of people who work in the tourism industry, who's jobs are under threat due to worsening climate change? What are you doing to protect their jobs?
@abc730 @leighsales 4. You say you have a plan to lower emissions by 2030 - what about fugitive emissions from gas mining (extraction), transport emissions, industry emissions all of which are going up now? There are technologies that exist right now to lower these emissions - but no gov plan.
@abc730 @leighsales 5. Australia has the best #renewable resources in the world, esteemed economists like Ross Garnaut & investment banks like Macquarie Capital say Australia could be a renewable export superpower, yet you are letting the renewables industry decline and won't commit to refund ARENA.
@abc730 @leighsales 6. Your gov has decided to make technology a centre-piece of its approach to #climatechange, but technologists, investors etc say we have 70% of the technology we need to limit climate change to less than 2degrees right now...
@abc730 @leighsales ... Why aren't you supporting a rapid deployment of these existing techs that we know lower emissions and drive investment like solar, wind, batteries, electric vehicles etc right now?
@abc730 @leighsales 7. Australia's biggest domestic contribution to #climatechange is the burning of coal in coal power stations to generate electricity. @CSIRO, @AEMO_Media and many others confirm we have all the technology we need to affordably and reliably modernise our electricity grid and...
@abc730 @leighsales @CSIRO @AEMO_Media ... lower electricity system emissions to close to zero in 20years. Yet your government is trying to a) build a new coal power station and b) extend the life of the oldest, most unreliable and asbestos ridden coal power station? How is that taking action on #climate?
