The slow coalition of party elites backing Biden when the primaries are clearly showing that Bernie is the preferred candidate is reminiscent of the 1944 Democratic convention. Let me explain.
At the 1944 Dem. Convention, delegates from across our nation were shouting "We Want [Henry] Wallace" for VP. Wallace was an ardent defender of the New Deal and a staunch believer in wage and racial equality. Wallace was also overwhelmingly popular. See below.
Party elites had other ideas. They devised a plan to take down and stop Wallace. What exactly happened is detailed below from 2 books. Fake fire hazards. Explicit orders from higher-ups. Blocking supporters. Bid-rigging, Getting alternative candidates to run to dampen support. 😱

@thegreathackdoc @profcarroll @thegreathackdoc is the first film I have seen that clearly lays down the position that democracy and individual autonomy are at stake in the fight against big business - in this case the technology giants.
@thegreathackdoc @profcarroll The film details the frightening but very real consequences of allowing the tech goliaths to establish dominion over every aspect of our lives. While the film mainly features the events of the Cambridge Analytica Scandal & the role FB played, it avoids just talking about FB.

Elizabeth Warren cost Bernie Sanders Minnesota, Maine and Massachusetts.... And Sanders would have bigger victories (and more delegates) in Utah, Colorado and California without Warren in the race. #SuperTuesdayResults
Conversely, Bloomberg took votes from Biden but did not cost Biden any state victories.

Without Bloomberg Biden wins the same states, but wins with larger margins.
The net impact from both Warren and Bloomberg, based on current vote totals, is a net delegate loss to Bernie Sanders.

Biden benefited.

Without Warren and Bloomberg, Bernie would have won three more states; and Bernie would have won more net delegates.

For those arguing 16' was a two person field so this comparison isn't apt. Consider, Sanders performed better against HRC who was a stronger candidate than anybody in 2020. The only competition in his 2020 lane is Warren but that doesn't explain drops this steep across the board
Look at Maine thus far tonight. Even if you combine all of Sanders & Warren voters (as of 11:43 p.m.), he's at around 50% which is 14% lower than 2016. No matter how you spin it, Sanders hasn't grown his base from 2016 despite a 4 year head start.
