The pressure has been immense. Everyone wants a resolution. As a show of good faith, the Wet’suwet’en Hereditary Chiefs sat down to talk to gov officials, and what happened? CGL and RCMP are back on their lands again today. Those two crucial points were not resolved. (Con’t)
Yet I see government congratulating itself, and media headlines proclaiming a “proposed agreement on pipeline” achieved even though it wasn’t an agreement about the pipeline. (Con’t)

THREAD - The causes of the #Wetsuweten crisis are decades of denial of land title and the sham of "consultation". Throughout Canada, Indigenous groups are expected to accept being ignored and to allow their rights to be violated when the future of their lands is at stake.
2/ In 2014, the Office of Wet'suwet'en raised over 500 points of concern with the Coastal Gaslink pipeline and asked the BC Environmental Assessment Office to reject the proposal. Despite these concerns, the project was approved. (wetsuweten.com/files/Wetsuwet…)
3/ When #Unistoten and @Smogelgem were in court for the BC Supreme Court Injunction, the judge asked why they had not filed a judicial review - a lawsuit challenging the project's approval.

1) Elected band councils are 100% in favour of the LNG pipeline
2) Elected band councils are a construct of colonial policy and do not represent traditional Indigenous governance

3) There is some conflict within the Wetsuweten people as to who is actually a legitimate hereditary chief
4) Matriarchs in the Wetsueten people have been pushed aside by male claimants to the title of hereditary chiefs 2/25
5) Mowhawk groups from Ontario are in close conversation with the Wetsuweten hereditary chiefs and are launching supportive protests and blockades, (Remember OKA)
6) Other groups, some FN, some claiming to be allies, are launching protests 3/25

Tactic #1 - “rule of law”.

They’re ignoring that Canada is in violation of their own law, and that Canada’s law isn’t even on a strong foundation, since it’s based on the colonial concepts of the Doctrine of discovery and Terra Nullius.

Tactic #2 - “democratically elected chiefs"

They’re ignoring that the colonial Indian Act tries to destroy Indigenous Nations, and elected chiefs only have jurisdiction for reserves. We’ve even turned “democracy” into a colonial weapon.
