Because I'm a wild party animal, I've just gone through and sorted all the jobs currently listed under "literature" on jobs.ac.uk. There are 76. #precarity
Of those 76, how many are real, permanent, full time jobs?

10

That's all periods, and includes Creative Writing (which seems to be a booming specialty, atm).
The rest? Buckle up.

Job that are not literature jobs, despite being posted here (language, linguistics, international relations, history, film): 14

Jobs that are actually administrative, despite being posted here: 4
"Jobs" that are actually studentships: 24

10 funded PhDs, 13 MA scholarships, and a bursary to do a PGCE.
Post-docs (some of these look rad, but are not full-time, permanent jobs):

4 years, FT: 1
3 years, FT: 1
3 years, FT, but in Asia: 1
2 years, FT: 1
1 year Cambridge 'fellowship' that pays £15k: 1
1 year, FT, abroad: 2
9-month poetry residency: 1
1 year RA post, 10 hrs/week
Lectureships that are either part time or fixed term:

fixed term and abroad: 2
1 year, full time: 1
Permanent, but 0.5: 2
10 months, full time, abroad: 1

And perhaps the most egregious: 2.5 hours/wk, for a 15wk semester: 2
The remaining miscellaneous grab bag includes:

2 tutoring jobs
3 college teaching posts
1 unpaid editorship of an academic journal

And one full-time, permanent lectureship. I didn't know where to put it because it also requires you to move to China for the rest of your life.
And this, remember, is "hiring season". This is when there actually ARE jobs. And this is it.
