/ With the God-King hopelessly bungling the response to #COVID19, herewith a lighthearted prognostication of our collective future. Beginning with ...

... @JoeBiden wins the Democratic nomination. (I know, what a stretch. Just wait for the rest of the thread....)
/ After a ho-hum debate on March 15 and a multi-state defeat 2 days later, @BernieSanders withdrew from the race, endorsed Biden, and told his staff to work with the Biden staff to develop the most progressive Democratic platform that can win in 2020.
/ A few days later, Biden stunned the political press by early-announcing @KamalaHarris as his running mate. Combined with Trump's fumbling of ... everything ... they propelled a Blue Tsunami that won the WH & Senate, & expanded Dems House majority.
/ November 15, 2010 - Trump refuses to concede an election that he lost by 4% and over 100 Electoral College votes, claiming "election fraud," and declares that he will stay in office.

Senate Republicans express "concern" at this development....
/ January 20, 2021 - Joe Biden is inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States, and Kamala Harris becomes the first woman Vice President. But that historic news is overshadowed by ...
/ ... Trump's refusal to attend the "phony" inauguration. His plans to hold the "real" inauguration (his own) at the White House are scuttled when the Secret Service tells him he no longer lives there.
/ Petulant as ever, Trump declares himself President In Exile and opens his own 'government' based at Mar-a-Lago. This dominates the @nytimes front page, which carries only an A-12 squib on Biden's inaugural address.
/ February 1, 2021 - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg announces her retirement. On page 1, the Times covers Trump's tweet nominating William Barr to replace her. On page 3A, the Times notes that President Biden and Vice President Harris are considering nominees.
/ February 11, 2021 - President Biden nominates Rutgers law professor @eliseboddie to fill RGB's seat, citing her landmark research in structural discrimination. Senate Republicans say they won't meet with her, but Majority Leader @chuckschumer notes that he doesn't need them.
/ Meanwhile, @AOC and @ewarren co-sponsor the 2021 Health For Americans Act, H4A, adding a public option to augment the ACA as part of a 4-year transition to Medicare-like coverage to all Americans.
/ April 26, 2021 - With the #COVID19 outbreak having lowered institutional resistance, H4A passes the House with a veto-proof majority. But Senate Republicans filibuster ...
/ ... and Majority Leader @chuckschumer agrees to a reform offered by @ewarren and @SenGillibrand. Cloture now requires 60 votes in the first 30 days, 55 votes in the next 30 days, and a simple majority thereafter, allowing a filibuster to pause but not kill a bill.
/ July 3, 2021 - Using the new filibuster reform, Senate Democrats pass H4A and President Biden signs it that evening. In his signing statement, President Biden calls it "Health Care Independence Day."
/ At Mar-a-Lago, 'President-in-Exile' Trump tweets out his 'veto' of H4A. The Times covers it below the fold on A1, with President Biden's bill-signing above the fold.
/ September 9, 2021 - SCOTUS watchers are stunned as Justice Clarence Thomas announces that he will retire due to illness. 'President-in-Exile' Trump tweets conspiracy theories, which the Times covers on 2A, next to their landmark 1500th story on Trump voters in rural diners.
/ September 30, 2021 - President Biden nominates Brandeis law professor Anita Hill to replace Thomas on the Supreme Court. @BretStevensNYT pens a whiny column asking if white men are now 'excluded' from the Court.
/ March 11, 2022 - SCOTUS hears arguments on a suit overturn the 2020 election. The suit claims the "republican form of government" clause (Article IV, Sec. 4) guarantees Republican Party rule.
/ Writing for a 5-4 majority, Justice @eliseboddie issues a 1-word opinion on the 2020 election case:

"No. 🤦‍♀️"

It is both the shortest opinion in SCOTUS history, and the first to include an emoji.
/ November 9, 2022 - After voters upend midterm tradition by expanding Democratic majorities in the Senate and House, President Biden announces he will retire at the end of his first term, saying: "We've done good. It's time for Kamala to take the reins."
/ January 20, 2025 - President Kamala Harris is inaugurated, alongside her running mate, Julian Castro. @BretStevensNYT pens a whiny column asking if white men are now 'excluded' from the White House. The Times concludes their 2500-story series on Trump voters in rural diners.
/ Thanks for making it to the end of this thread.
