What is Hindu Rashtra?

States founded on religious principles have 2 paths. 1) Enforce piety. 2) Excluded minorities.

Pak constitution founded on 1). State pushed zakat, mandated direct debit from bank accounts in Ramzan. Excluded Shia. Sunnis didn’t want to pay either

Many Sunnis declared themselves Shia to avoid zakat.
State pushed hard piety. Lashing for drinking, Friday holiday instead of Sunday. Didn’t work. Ehteram e Ramzan law bans eating, drinking dawn-dusk. Restaurants unhappy, went to court.

Pak court declared interest to be Haram. Economy would collapse if implemented. Musharraf had to fix court. Zia corporal punishment, cutting off hands for theft. Pak judges trained in common law, Macaulay code, appalled. Too scared to implement.

My investigation with @VICE and @typeinvestigate done over six months, analysing 500+ tribunal judgements received through #RTI. Do read.
@VICE @typeinvestigate 78% of the orders were issued without the accused present, known as an ex-parte judgement. In one tribunal, this was the case in every single judgment.
@VICE @typeinvestigate In 515 judgments analysed, about 82% of people on trial were declared foreigners. The numbers varied widely; one foreigners tribunal declared all its cases Indian, while another declared every person tried a foreigner.
