The U.S. may not have enough ventilators in this #coronavirus pandemic.

Humans. We can train thousands of medical/nursing/etc. students and other volunteers to do manual ventilation with a bag valve mask.

There is historical precedent for this...
During 1952 poliomyelitis epidemic:
" 1500 medical and dental students ventilating polio patients for 165,000 hours... thereby saving ∼100 people who would have been lost without this effort .....”

For those who will host workouts, remember that as soon as ONE athlete tests positive for #COVID19, everyone who trained in close proximity to that athlete may need to self-quarantine. Here are few recommendations that I've picked up through collaboration with my colleagues.
Following these recommendations will not guarantee prevention of #coronavirus transmission during workouts. These are meant to promote a productive training environment while reducing germ circulation. Please contribute by sharing your ideas as well:
- Athletes must take responsibility to stay home if they have the slightest signs of illness.
- Require and observe athletes using hand sanitizer before entering the weightroom. Require hand washing and full drying if sanitizer is unavailable.

Talked to a Source at BARDA (Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority), which is under HHS, that develops medical countermeasures in responses to threats such as infectious diseases, such as Ebola, Zika and #coronavirus. 1/
Source says there are incredible scientists who care deeply. However, they’ve been “handicapped.” They've been monitoring the response for a while, “but we didn’t get the go ahead until recently." They didn’t have authority to interact w companies that help develop products. 2/
“A lot of our staff has been repurposed for this [#coronavirus] response as of this week.” The source said some people only began work on this on MONDAY. The team had to wait until the $8.3 billion spending bill was approved. Trump signed that on March 6. 3/
