Means-testing inevitably creates more administrative costs, red tape, and the ability for bureaucrats to deny benefits.

We should expand Medicaid, UI and SNAP, but we must deliver universal funds now!
Universal programs ensure that every American has a stake in our policies—that’s why programs like Social Security are so successful.

My proposal gets monthly relief to all Americans now. And then we tax the rich to make sure they contribute more.
Now that the GOP has come around to cash assistance, let’s make sure that these payments:

- Reach all Americans — no means-testing
- Go out monthly until this pandemic is over

The party of Social Security and Medicare should be leading the charge for universal relief!

What we know so far about the latest bill:

- $1200 in cash to those making up to $75K, $2400 for couples up to $150k, $500 for kids
- Increased unemployment benefits timeline
- $350 million in small business loans/direct $$ for those who maintain payroll
- $500B in aid to corps—with Congressional oversight
- $100B in assistance to hospitals
- $150B to state/local govts
- $250m in tax credits for paid leave
- $400m in election grants
- $1B for Defense Production Act
- $45B in disaster relief for local govts/tribes
Concerns:

- No word on universal and monthly cash assistance
- No word on coverage for all testing/treatment for coronavirus
- No word on eviction/foreclosure protections
- No word on a ban on stock buybacks/bonuses
- No word on student debt, mortgage and rent relief

Any relief package must:

•Make cash assistance universal and monthly
•Halt foreclosures *and* evictions
•Freeze all deportations
•Cancel student debt
•Pay for small business losses
•Bail out workers, not corporations

Here are some steps I have been taking to ensure this.
.@AyannaPressley and I led a letter calling for across the board student debt cancellation and immediate monthly payment relief to be included in the next package. 

No one should have to choose between paying off student loans and putting food on the table during this crisis.
I led a letter to @DHS_Wolf requesting a plan to prevent outbreak in detention facilities—and a halt to deportations, interior enforcement and immigration court proceedings to prevent the spread of the virus. theintercept.com/2020/03/20/sto…

The point system is set up to ensure everyone needs an appropriate skill job offer & speaks English but then just needs20points to get over the line. Now as most people & jobs are not PhD STEM that means getting 1 of 2 things:

1. Threshold salary
2. Job in shortage sector

The salary threshold is set at national level so it’s *relatively* modest in London/SE but quite prosperous in rest of UK, & positively aspirational comfortable middle class in poorer regions.

Tomorrow, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments in 2 cases challenging the Trump Admin’s authority to take #Medicaid away from people who don’t meet work requirements or pay premiums. But the evidence is mounting that these waivers are harmful. (thread)
Here’s what we know: a federal district court already blocked #Medicaid waivers in AR, KY, & NH that would have allowed the states to take coverage away from people who didn’t meet work requirements and imposed other coverage restrictions.
The DC Circuit will hear the federal government’s appeal of those decisions tomorrow. In the meantime, CMS has continued to approve similar waivers in other states — despite the growing evidence showing their harm.

Do we really take back control of these? Or is it an ERG con? The appearance of Brexit that helps only the very rich?
Q1. Does "No Deal" give us more control over our LAWS.

Answer 1.

Categorically not. It gives us no more ability to set UK laws than we had as part of the EU the previous day...

Our ability to set British law before and after no deal is 100% identifical.
So what does change?
Almost overnight our ability to work together with neighbouring nations is diminished.

If we want common standards on diesel fumes, help with cross border drugs, prevention of people trafficking, it's possible but arduous

In Arkansas, the only state to take coverage away from people not meeting a work requirement, more than 1 in 5 people have lost #Medicaid coverage under this policy.
