#Social_Cure researchers @UQPsych were asked to come up with some evidence-based tips to help people stay socially connected while physically distanced due to #Covid_19. Here are six that we came up with. Please share and add your own.

1. Connect virtually and connect often. Physical distancing need not mean social distancing and technology is key to this. The best technologies are those where you share a lot of information, involve more than two people, and connect in real time

2. Connect with groups. Research shows that group-based connections can be especially protective in times of uncertainty and challenge. So don’t just use tech to connect 1-on-1, connect virtually with family groups, your yoga group, book club, etc.

3. Try to connect with all the groups in your life, not just the ones that are easy to connect with. Do this by thinking about all the groups you count on and who count on you, and be creative in finding the best ways to connect and support them

4. Connect others. Help those less familiar with technology to get connected and trouble shoot their problems, so that they can benefit from virtual connection

5. Connect and support locally. Support others in your neighbourhood. Who needs grocery shopping? Who needs help getting online? Who lives nearby but feels isolated? Reaching out not only helps others, but will also have health benefits for you

6. Connect with vulnerable people. Helping those who are vulnerable get access to resources and support is vital to the health of society. We are in this together and drawing on—and building—our collective resources will help us get through this.
