Thread: It’s been a tough week. But, without wanting to glamourise working from home (it’s anything but glamorous), there have been some positives this week. I thought I’d share mine - please brighten my day by sharing yours!
To give me a clean separation at the end of my work day, I’ve gone out for an early evening run 4 days out of 5. Isaac and Toby joined me on Monday. Kara ran with me on Tuesday. I’m hoping we can keep doing this at least once a week 🏃🏼‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃
Being at home makes it easier for us to all have dinner as a family, something that normally only happens at weekends. Hopefully from next week we can have breakfast and/or lunch together sometimes too (although our daily schedules don’t always overlap) 🍽😋
Isaac has been studying home for 3 days already. He’s joined me twice on my lunchtime walk, giving us an opportunity for some extended 1-to-1 time. We talk about his morning’s lessons and I can check in on his well-being more regularly. I’ve loved having that opportunity 😁
The kids have rediscovered Countdown. We’re working it into our daily schedule as it’s a fun way for the kids to keep their literacy and numeracy skills sharp. Also it doubles up as screen-time that will help break up the more formal learning 📺🔠🔢
A small thing in the greater scheme, but there’s also a financial benefit. I have a 45-mile round trip to work and a terrible Starbucks habit. Working at home saves me £50 a week on petrol and coffee - plus, of course, I’m pumping out less in emissions from my car 🚗☕️
Being at home to eat dinner as a family also means I have more time to cook (I like cooking) and it frees up time for us to watch films or play games together as a family afterwards (especially now the kids can afford to sleep in a little later in the morning) 🎬🎲
We can’t do big days out in the same way now - but the kids have always enjoyed geocaching. So we can still get outside with an excuse for a long walk away from big crowds 🗺🚶🏻🚶‍♀️🚶🏻
Boxsets! 📺
Trying to stay inside more also means more opportunities to read and to hold our family book club meetings. And just talk to each other. It’s the little things 📚😀
Of course, our days aren’t all skipping through the daisies. There’s going to be a lot of drudge, boredom and treading on each other’s toes. But you have to make the most of finding the sunshine between the showers, right? 👍
