if you're fixing to tweet a "But!" at me right now, let me reassure you that I've been covering Andrew Cuomo since 2009 and you will never, ever change my mind about him, I promise you I speak from extensive reporting experience.
also yes, I get it, I know why it's trending, I too was commenting on the leadership vacuum yesterday but I think it's important to share information that people who don't live in NY might not have about Cuomo before they decide that he's their hero for doing the bare minimum.
Cuomo's been very good at grabbing onto a narrative that is trending, making just enough of a political about-face to do something that sounds good on its face and then loading it with poison pills that fuck over working people.
He worked to keep the NY state senate in the hands of Republicans despite a Democratic majority every year, and thus prevented himself from having to actually veto things like universal healthcare that were popular in the state house.
This moment is peak Cuomo: do a little bit and then spend more money on press releases lauding his own leadership than you have on actually supporting the working people of his state.
OK I'm going to go do yoga to lower my blood pressure let me just reassure you one last time that Cuomo has a history of letting hospitals close, screwing over working people, and making housing harder to come by, the exact opposite of what we need in this moment.
