Saturday night coronavirus positivity: deaths in the United States dropped for a second day in a row & total new infections dropped for the first time in two weeks: worldometers.info/coronavirus/co…
Obviously the numbers fluctuate quite a bit and are likely to go back up some days, but given the increased amount of testing presently going on both of these numbers declining is a positive sign.
New York now nearly has half of all confirmed coronavirus cases in the entire country. That’s the hot spot of all hot spots. Need to get control there. Washington, where this all started, is rapidly improving. worldometers.info/coronavirus/co…
Germany, which is the country with an outbreak most similar to the United States in Europe despite all the Italy craziness you see on social media, also saw daily new infections and deaths decline today. worldometers.info/coronavirus/co…
We are also testing over 50k people a day per White House briefing this morning. Here are latest state by state results: covidtracking.com/data/
Assuming data is accurate on above linked website about 8% of people testing positive are being hospitalized. This would mean 92% of those testing positive are able to self-quarantine and have comparatively mild cases.

Interesting that 7 NBA players out of about 120 tested so far have been positive for coronavirus. That’s 6%. Are they representative of nation or outliers? If representative of nation this would suggest there are 19 million coronavirus cases in the country.
This would also mean the coronavirus is far more common and far less deadly than presently thought. And that a certain amount of herd immunity exists in the country.
If NBA players are outliers this would also be fascinating. Why are they testing at so much higher rates than the general public?

What I am saying is epidemiologists can discuss ways to stop a virus from spreading. What they don’t tell us is the ECONOMIC COST of stopping the virus from spreading. Everything is cost benefit analysis.
Every day in our economy we make decisions that cause deaths because we decide the economic benefit is worth it. Cars, alcohol, fast food, all of these things kill people, often much more than viruses do. We have never shut down the national economy for a virus before.
My concern is we don’t really know the economic ramifications of a decision like this. And, significantly, that almost no one is discussing this cost.

We are witnessing a fascinating case study in mass hysteria. Coronavirus is less contagious than the flu and based on South Korean data has a death rate of .6 percent for those who are infected. (99.4% of all infected regardless of age recover).
So far 4200 world wide out of a population of 7.7 billion have died. (30 people in the United States out of a population of 327 million have died). China and South Korea have effectively ended the virus in their countries & both had far more infections than the United States.
It isn’t sexy and it isn’t fear porn, but we’re all going to be fine. Fear of the coronavirus is far more of a threat than the actual coronavirus. Wash your hands, vampire sneeze and chill out.

Here's what isn't being said about #coronavirus: for 15 years the United States ran a research program called PREDICT to identify & stop pandemics. It was shut down in October.
PREDICT was inspired by the 2005 H5N1 bird flu scare & found more than a thousand new viruses 🦠
The administrations of George W. Bush & Barack Obama provided robust funding for PREDICT, but things changed in 2017, according to Dennis Carroll, who helped design the program.
