We think of Buddhists as "present" and "in the moment" and "aware."

Thats part of it. The other part of the Buddha's teaching is understanding the true nature of things.

For example every living thing dies. There is no living without dying.
This is especially important in this pandemic. Many people are very afraid of dying alone. Separated from their loved ones. Unable to hold the hand of their special someone.
This is an unpleasant thought. It is also the truth. The fact of the current circumstances.

Do not run away. Do not lose your shit. Stay with me another minute.
What happens on you death bed is less important than you think. I've seen a lot of people die. Most people are asleep when they do. They don't really know who is in the room.

It's just pleasant dreams.
For the living, accept the True Nature of Things as the Buddha recommends.

You may not be able to hold your loved one as they die. You may not even be able to see them in the hospital. This is the undeniable truth of the world.
So grab them now. Hold them tight. Today is not-a-funeral. Today you are not apart. Grab on and hold on tight. Be present today and now with the people you love. Love them like you may not see them again.

Today. While you still can.
The Buddha did not say ignore the future. He said acknowledge the future. Accept the facts and rules imposed by the world.

Accept the true nature of things and respond accordingly.
Love your people right now with all your heart. Tell them everything you have ever meant to tell them.
