Amongst the wealth of online resources relating to their #Pompeii exhibition that @GrandPalaisRmn have generously made accessible online is this lovely film of a reconstruction of the recently discovered House with the Garden in Region V by @pompeii_sites

The House with the Garden became renown for the discovery of the charcoal inscription which initiated further debate as to the date of the eruption

I was fascinated to see the House with the Garden in #Pompeii being excavated and it slowly emerging from the volcanic debris on my couple of visits to Region V.
Separated by 4 months here are “before & after” photos in March then in July 2018 as more pumice had been removed...

In March I was standing on top of the atrium and the workmen were removing material from above the portico of the House with Garden. The garden lies behind them.
By July the garden & portico was almost emptied and the atrium in the foreground was also partially revealed.

In March I was standing just above the AD79 garden level and the tops of amphorae were just poking through the pumice. By July the garden surface was revealed as were the capitals of the white plastered columns of the portico.

In March I was probably—and obviously unknowingly—standing just above this marble garden table which had been revealed by July, resting on the original AD79 Roman garden surface.

The first photo (courtesy of @pompeii_sites) shows the completed excavation of the garden (note the white table top!) and decorated portico.
The reconstruction brings this part of the House with the Garden wonderfully back to life.
