Chris Murphy absolutely cannot help himself. We've been starving these countries for years––causing 10,000s of deaths––and even token gestures of relief can't be broached without smug imperialist zombie condemnations reasserting the essential evilness of the "regime" in question. 
we are such a cursed country. even half ass, belated and slight reductions of punishment regimes for countries in the global south cannot be made by our liberals without demonization and reasserting the axiomatic premise our cruel sanctions policy is otherwise justified
the US has 25% of the world's prison population, 2.3 million people in US prisons rotting away being left for dead––less than 1% have been let out. Instead of demonizing Official Enemies it'd be great if Murphy tried, for once, a modicum of introspection & lobbied on their behalf
we have millions of people in Covid hot boxes, caged 2.5 feet apart without soap, sharing a toilet 30-to-1, 50-to-1, being left for dead and not a single Senator has called for releasing any of them. One of the "regimes" in question has released 40% of its prison population.
