As different countries battle the #COVID2019 pandemic, there is much debate as to which country acted in which way and whether their actions were timely or not?

Also, which country model, on balance, works better than others? A thread, on Indian action since January 2020.

Lot of questions on quantity / adequacy of testing in almost any conversation on #Covid19India. So some points:

1) The Indian testing regime has been decided by experts of ICMR.

2) It is not as if ICMR wants some other model and government has overruled them.

3) Testing done at state level. Defies logic that all states have come together in some grand design to under-report.

4) If #Covid19India numbers totally misleading, actual sick people would be showing up in hospitals. In mobile camera age, can anyone really hide truth? 2/3
5) ICMR decided testing strategy for stage-II. Random trials on people sick with respiratory sickness to check for community spread. No evidence so far.
6) ICMR continuously upgrading protocol per evolving situation.
7) Private labs now in loop.

JUSTICE RANGNATH MISRA: A Brief History

1) Justice Misra headed the Commission of Inquiry into 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom. Appointed by Rajiv Gandhi.

The inquiry was a sham. Burden of proof was on victims!! Not surprisingly Congress / Rajiv Gandhi came out spotlessly clean. 1/3
Justice Rangantah Misra became CJI in 1990. But did it end here? NO

Justice Misra became first chief was NHRC. Think about it. The man who said no one killed anyone in 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom was made FIRST Chief of NHRC by CONGRESS GOVERNMENT IN 1993. But this was not all. 2/3
Justice Ranganath Misra was not done yet. His term at NHRC ended in 1996. Congress was still in 'debt'. After all. Justice Misra gave clena chit to Congress for 1984 ant-Sikh pogrom.

So, in 1998 Congress brought Justice Misra to Rajya Sabha.

The mother of all propaganda and deliberate spreading of fake news - in @WSJ, whose Editor-in-Chief is @murraymatt. The article is written by three writers whose name appears in the screenshot.

An entire body of evidence, on video camera, directly contradicts this article. 1/3

We often hear it said, in certain circles, that the current #COVIDー19 crisis would be "good for the climate and the environment," or that we ought "to apply the same measures against climate change." Here is why I think this is wrong. 1/..
Not only is this utterly insensitive to the ordeal many families are living through right now, not to mention the staff on the front line, but it's also completely wrong and stupid. On the contrary, I think that in the long run this crisis will be a disaster for the #climate. 2/

How bad will this get – it depends. If we act now ( #socialdistancing), limited interaction we can slow the spread. With vaccines being trialed, theres hope we can quell this, but realistically only toward end of the year (trials, testing, distribution, administration) /3

In trials, VCs appear to be safe, effective & popular but almost all RCTs were confided to highly selected patients with chronic stable conditions. Most RCT evidence is irrelevant to the current acute, escalating situation.

Introducing VC in real-world settings is a complex change that disrupts roles, relationships and routines. It is more resource-intensive and takes longer than most people anticipate, and failure is common.

A back-of-the-enveloppe thread on the spread of #COVIDー19:

1) HUBEI province (ca 60 million people) has had close to 3000 deaths. It still has an active caseload of ca 20 K patients & some 130 new cases a day, & ca 30 daily deaths. So I expect up to 3500 deaths, assuming...1/9
...a winding down of the epidemic there by end March. If,stress IF, the rest of the world became like Hubei (0.8%of world population), the death toll could be of ca 400 K with a cumulative number of cases of ca 8 million.This possibly sets the outer bounds of a Covid pandemic 2/n
Of course, active measures in the world may prevent Hubei-scale outbreaks so this is unlikely to happen (conversely, late but tough measures in Hubei have also limited Covid's spread in that province).
