1/ Work on Mumbai’s state of the art COVID-19 hermetically sealed sample collection box started today at Kasturba Hospital. A multidisciplinary team has been working on this project since early March. @AUThackeray @salilashutosh

2/ Not that religion matters, but Mustafa pictured here is Muslim and he’s toiling away right outside the COVID-19 OPD in Kasturba Hospital.
I asked him “Why are you taking the risk to work here?” He said “If I keep doctors like you safe, I will also stay safe.”
3/ A few days back the Twitterverse wrongly condemned an entire religion for the cruel and thoughtless action of a few bad individuals who committed the heinous crime of attacking doctors fighting COVID-19.
4/ There are many Muslims like Mustafa who love their India and are toiling away at huge personal risk to keep doctors like me safe. We’re all in this together folks; we’re all safe or none of us are safe. Thank you Mustafa, you are the best of us! -Proud Indian, grateful doctor.

1/ In October 2019 Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security simulated a coronavirus pandemic. This exercise was called the event 201 scenario: centerforhealthsecurity.org/event201/scena…
2/ They simulated an outbreak of a novel zoonotic coronavirus that jumped from bats to humans. The virus and the disease it caused were modeled largely on SARS, but it was more transmissible and caused milder symptoms.
3/ It spread across the world leading to a severe pandemic. At first some countries were able to control it but it continued to spread and be reintroduced, and eventually no country could maintain control.

Common s&s include cough, pharyngeal erythema
The most common radiologic finding: bilateral ground-glass opacity (32.7%)
15.8% no symptoms of infection or radiologic features of pneumonia

Preprint study looking at a new test for COVID-19. Currently we use PCR. It’s expensive and difficult to scale. Result takes time. Sanple@needs to be stored in cold chain.
Antibody tests (serological tests) check for antibodies against the virus. There are two types of antibodies we test for.

I will address the nation shortly to clarify some of the guidelines that I issued yesterday on #Covid-19.
Last night after the address, my social media team informed me that there are a number of areas the public wanted to be clarified. I have captured some and will be elaborating on them. #M7Address.
On the issue of curfew, it started today not yesterday. It will be from 7:00pm to 6:30am. Anyone that will move during that time will be doing so at their own risk, I advise you against it because we do not want incidents. #M7Address.

Back on March 3, I did a (rare) twitter rant on why I worried about the US #COVID outbreak (note: there were less than 100 US cases recorded then!!)

It is time for an update on what is next...

A lot has happened since Mar 3:
1) US cases have growth exponentially for 4 weeks, to reach >140K, and the growth is still high: above the theoretical 12%, as testing still ramping up
2) US cases now exceed all other countries, including China and Italy (the previous 'leaders')
The focus has shifted away from the rampant pending outbreak, the lack of testing and the slow policy response: pretty much everybody knows that the outbreak is locally transmitted and highly problematic in every US state by now.

It is with gratitude to God that I announce to you that our State would have been infected with coronavirus yesterday, but for the vigilance of security agents who, acting on a tip- off prevented an infected person from boarding a flight from Abuja to Port Harcourt.

The infected person beat all security measures that were put in place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and Abuja and was to sneak into Port Harcourt before security agents stopped her.

Based on this alarming Information, the State Security Council met yesterday and reviewed measures already put in place and decided that there was urgent need to adopt stringent measures to protect those living and doing business in the state from the virus.

My husband and I have experienced a traumatizing event in the past 24 hours #covid #personalstory #threadstorytime
A few days ago, we made arrangements with my husband’s sister to have their travelling mom live with us for a bit during the quarantine period immediately after her arrival. My mother in law “officially” lived with my sister in law. And the latter has an immunocompromised child.
My MIL left the country to go to France in mid January this year. She usually arranges this type of trip yearly to be with her retired sisters who live there. This year they planned to go to a pacific island with a group in early March.

This has been our routine for many years (to protect our DD with #CF) but we’ve ramped things up a bit now due to #COVID. Things we do because we once brought home multi drug resistant..
pseudomonas, which scared us all. We do everything possible to reduce risk of hospital germs at home. I may sound quite mad or sane, I have no idea. OCD even. But here we go!
If we have not showered at work, we come in, yell hi to the kids & run up for a shower🚿. Clean change of clothes (you can wear those to work next day). Hugs come after. It’s fine.
