People need to be paying attention to the anti-democratic steps the President is taking while people are appropriately preoccupied with the current pandemic. Some of the most outrageous steps were on a Friday night. Here is a partial litany: 1/7

Last night he announced his intention to fire the Inspector General for the Intelligence Community, who informed Congress of the Ukraine whistleblower complaint. This is payback against an independent public servant for telling the truth. 2/7

The same night, he nominated a White House lawyer to be special inspector general for the stimulus program--an important oversight position that should be going to an independent expert, not a loyalist. 3/7

More and more power has gone to Jared Kushner, who is working extensively on the President's campaign from the White House, which may violate the law, and operating a secretive shadow coronavirus task force, which may also violate the law. 4/7

Yesterday, the administration changed its description on a federal website of the Strategic National Stockpile to correspond to Kushner's description of it at a press conference as for the federal government, not the states. 5/7

Also this week, the Navy fired a captain who courageously blew the whistle about a coronavirus outbreak on his ship. Again apparent payback for truthtelling. 6/7

This is bad stuff, people. Don't let it go unnoticed and unprotested because of the ongoing crisis. Times of crisis are when democracies collapse. Just ask Hungary. 7/7
