To find out a little bit about what we do here’s the readers digest version. 1/?
We here at @HarvestHillsYYC, provide a one time food hamper to any individual, family or senior in need of food assistance. 2/?
We do an intake with the family and do our best to verify need and how emergent their need is. Whether they are ASAP Emergency(1 to 4 days of food left), Immediate Emergency (5 to 7 days of food left), Important Need (8 to 14 days of food left). 3/?
After the intake is done we get a detailed grocery list of items needed and a detailed list of items wanted. Then after we have verified need, one of our volunteers (or myself) go out and get as many items as our donation budget allows us to do 4/?
Usually we are able to get every item on the needs list and if we have extra in our budget for any particular food hamper, we try our best to get a few items on their wants list. 5/?
By doing our food hampers this way, we have a near 100% consumption rate of our food hampers and virtually all the items in our hamper aren’t wasted or thrown away. 6/?
As I said earlier our food hampers are tailored to the request. We can accommodate allergies and religious beliefs and other special needs as well.
7/?
Usually we have as little as 10 to as high as 100 requests per day for food hampers. If you or anyone else is in need we can be contacted at:
Phone: 403-608-7224
Facebook: @ HarvestHillsCares
Email: HarvestHillsCaresCalgary@Gmail.Com
8/?
We always need donations. If you know of anyone that could or would donate to us please consider donating.
Anything can and will help as 100% of our donations go straight towards individuals and families and seniors in need of food assistance. 9/?
Etransfers can be sent to:

We were at a store in Southeast #Calgary. We were shopping for some groceries when my stepson saw someone take a package of meat and put it under their shirt and then slowly walk over to their cart. #Food#Hungry#Alberta#yyc
Someone then took it upon themselves to legit walk over there and publicly shame the person. Sure people came to the person who took the package of meat but the other entitled bigot just wouldn’t stop.
I stepped in. I was NOT going to let another #Calgarian be treated like that.
I went over to the person and asked if I could help at all. The entitled bigot told me to kick rocks (in not so nice words) but I wouldn’t let that phase me.
I told the person in a loud voice that we would have no problem buying them some groceries no questions asked. #Groceries
We have 2 requests on our list to tend to before we hit the ground running this week!

What a freaking night last night was. If I feel broken after what I experienced and witnessed last night….what do people who sleep rough and outside feel like?
