In that period, we suffered derision, insult & indifference, but still we battled

But, as with all things standards-making, as we discovered via @Standards4EU, the path was never straight

However, we created the most dynamic draft #Standard seen to date

This document would have changed e/thing on #fumeevents

But, the #Aviation #Airline Industry & some elements within the #EuropeanUnion were far from happy. In 2020/21 we saw the defeat of the draft #Standard that had been agreed to in the drafting stage

What would happen now?

It was decided that the only way to preserve this draft #Standard via @Standards4EU was through creation of #TechnicalReport

I couldn't stay this course, partly b/c I disagreed, but importantly b/c of my work on @AMagdaleneRose

In many respects my disagreement with this course of action is irrelevant, but I considered that #Aircrew & #Passengers deserved something stronger, not a document that provides no obligs nor reqs on #Aviation or #Airlines

That said, bet Sept'21/Sept'22, @ETUC_standards @ECAEurope & #EU Trade Unions & their members worked very hard 2secure a vote to publish this as a #TechnicalReport

On Friday, the vote was won & I send my unqualified congrats 2all

I wasn't on the inside, but I played my part as did other departing colleagues, supporting those fighting for this vote.

But even Trade Union members suffered rejection from some National Standards Bodies, & there's the problem

Problem: #Standards-making is very closed shop, generally Ind dominated, a fact recgd by @Standards4EU; external views are difficult to secure

This draft Standard was very inclusive but reading Ind comments you'd think otherwise!

▶️If @EASA #Standards are so important, why does Industry engage globally in a Standards circus?
▶️@Standards4EU needs to learn from this an engage with contributors
▶️That #Aircrew & #Passengers remain at risk

If there's benefit 2publication of #TechnicalReport, it'll be 2demonstrate key issues - there'll be no hiding place 4Industry

But it's unenforceable

Its obligs/reqs narrative was achieved thro 2/3 year consensus from all!
