I have searched RBI & Finance Ministry Annual Report for 2016-17 for this new fantasy figure of ₹2.89 lakh crores.. Not seen anywhere!
Even searched for the amount in economic survey.. Its not even there in any Parliament QN & ANS.. Its really perplexing, yep, it's source!
I finally found the source...It's as usual another interesting press release by the CBDT on 30/08/2017 
Read the release carefully. During DeMOn it is found that 13.3 lakh accounts deposited around Rs. 2.89 lakh crores. Then?
Out of that 13.3 lakh persons, 9.72 lakh persons responded to the queries raised by IT Dept. So silent about what is the result of that ;)
how this 2.89 lakh crores is divided between 9.72 lakh people who responded & rest 3.58 lakh people not responded? NO ANSWER THERE
It can also interpret that 9,72 lakh persons have 13.3 lakh accounts and had 2.89 lakh crores deposits...which qualifies as CTR or STR
CTR - Cash Transaction Reports & STR - Suspicious Transaction Reports. This is statutorily received by FIU-IND when transactions happens
This is the status of the work carried out by FIU-IND during last FY as per Annual Report of Ministry of Finance 
CBDT claims online queries were raised in more than 35000 cases and verification is completed in 7800 cases. So only 35000 cases suspicious?

Like him, many business guys responded satisfactorily to the cash deposits made by them during DeMon. CBDT silent about detection
On a plain reading of the statement by CBDT never claims that 2.89 lakh crores money is still locked or under scrutiny as Spin Master claims
As long as CBDT provides vague data like this to facilitate Spin Masters to spin &misinterpret, we will hear such success stories of DeMon

CBDT gives fodder to the spin masters to twist & misinterpret data by this sort of vague statements to justify #DemonetisationScam
TRUTH will come out, how long can they hide? Like the DeMon currency narrative failed, this spin will too fall apart..Just matter of time!
