BREAKING: @BetsyDeVosED just announced the Dep. of Ed is attacking longstanding critical Title IX protections for sexual assault survivors.
These guidelines are critical for making sure schools support and protect survivors — and now @BetsyDeVosED wants to destroy them.
DeVos is opening up the guidance for comment — but don't be fooled. This is a straight up attack on survivors' civil rights.
In her announcement, DeVos showed that she has literally no understanding of the guidance or what protections survivors actually need.
We were in the meeting between her and survivors — they supported the guidance. She twisted their words to attack it.
If she understood the guidance, she'd know schools need education about what it means, instead of weakening it & putting survivors at risk.
She shared several examples of survivors who were let down by their schools—but it's because their schools were NOT FOLLOWING THE GUIDANCE.
Despite the 105K+ who signed petitions + 94% of voters who disagree with her, DeVos is siding w/the radical ideology of a twisted minority.
But DeVos' callous choice to attack the Title IX guidance is not the end of this fight. Not by a long shot.
A person who bragged about assaulting women may be in the White House, but we're not letting rape culture be enshrined as official policy.
It's time to fight. It's time to resist. It's time to tell DeVos that this attack on survivors' civil rights will not stand.
Together, we will #StopBetsy, we will fight for the rights of survivors, and we will make sure schools DO. THEIR. JOBS.
