I’d like more women to apply to Trail of Bits. 30x more men apply than women on average today. Here are some ways I have tried improving it:
I co-developed and sponsored NYU’s Cybersecurity Symposium for Women to bring in new midcareer pros blog.trailofbits.com/2014/09/29/nyu…
I taught an intro session on exploitation at NYU’s Cybersecurity Summer Program for High School Women. blog.trailofbits.com/2014/07/28/edu…
I hired an intern from that class, Loren, and encouraged her to write about her experience with us. blog.trailofbits.com/2015/09/10/sum…
I set up low-risk winter, fall, and spring internships so people can try us out without a big commitment. blog.trailofbits.com/2016/08/09/wor…
I share our knowledge so newcomers can easily navigate our industry. See our CTF Field Guide for a great example: blog.trailofbits.com/2014/05/20/tra…
I set up @EmpireHacking, a welcoming community that lets us meet new people. It has an enforced code of conduct. blog.trailofbits.com/2015/05/05/emp…
Trail of Bits executive management includes a woman, Lauren, who I hired to help keep us an excellent place to work as we grow.
… and our employees love working with us. We’ve only had ONE employee quit in ~6 years to join a new startup.
I think those were all good ideas but what I’m doing now is not working well enough. I’d love it if more women applied. How do I improve?
I would be remiss to not mention our applications page if you would like to apply to work with us: trailofbits.com/careers/
