Ok, I promised it last night and now I'm going to start my thread of #WomenInTabletop. Strap in.
Disclosure: I'm going to focus on women that I've personally worked with or have had meaningful professional interactions with.
Also this thread might take a couple days for me to finish. I'm going to try and cover literally everyone.
And here we go, beginning in no particular order:
When people mention professional women in tabletop I think of @Delafina777 and how hard she works not only as an employee but as an advocate
I have witnessed Jessica sacrifice her own career for the sake of advocating for others' well-being in an industry that is all too willing
to look the other way and pretend like problems aren't happening or aren't as bad as they seem. I've never met someone who is both so
talented and also SELF-TAUGHT in many of the fields she excels in. Her writing astounds and inspires me; the Quadira book for Pathfinder was
one of the most evocative and exciting products they'd done in that line. When I brought her on to work on an Aethera project she DELIVERED.
Jess may've fallen on her own sword for tabletop, but she's a massive asset to her new home, Arena Net. The TTRPG indstry needed her voice.
And the TTRPG industry continues to need incredibly talented people who are also vocal advocates willing to drag problems into the light.
So @lilithdarkmoon is a Renaissance woman. She's one of the most dedicated, hard-working, and talented people I have ever worked with.
Liz Courts brings a professional passion to every project she works on. She's never satisfied with "good enough" and pushes expectations up.
I knew Liz at Paizo as the dedicated community manager who herded ALL THE CATS for her own love of the community and passion for games.
Liz was the face who always warmly greeted me at every Paizocon. She also founded Wayfinder, a publication resource critical to new writers.
Liz is also the artist who did the PHENOMENAL layout work for @aetheraRPG. Liz is a consummate collaborator and tremendously knowledgeable.
We faced some major technological hurdles working on Aethera's layout and Liz punched them all in the face with skill and determination.
I'm not sure Aethera would've ever made it to print without her and I am forever grateful to her for both that and her years of contribution
to the entire community. She's given so much to the Pathfinder community and tried her best to give even more at every opportunity.
I need to talk about @lyzmaytweet. Lyz Liddell is an editor that came on recommendation from my good friend Adam Daigle and she is amazing.
Lyz came on to Aethera's editorial team when I had vastly underestimated both the sheer size of what we were making and it's complexity.
Lyz became our managing editor and brought on Ethan Bernstein with our extant editor Savannah (more on her later) and took charge of things.
Lyz' draw talent and passion for game design was an unbelievably invaluable resource. She not only filled my knowledge gaps in editing, but
became a powerful bonding force among the whole team. She's called herself our "momma bear" on more than one occasion.
Lyz' editorial knowledge and perseverance in the face of hundreds of thousands of words is nothing short of heroic. She is a true leader.
Even more so, she's not yet killed me for saddling her with editing a bunch of word-salad kineticist archetypes, so she's merciful too!
I don't know what else can be said about @amandahamon other than "thank you." My professional relationship with Amanda is strictly from a
writer's perspective. I've worked under Amanda's supervision on a handful of Paizo projects and each and every time has been a pleasure.
Amanda's job at the time was a developer. For those outside the biz, it's like a director in a movie mixed with a producer and editor.
Amanda wears all those hats with style and grace. She is both cannily knowledgeable about every product she's worked on and also tirelessly
provided detailed guidance and feedback in an industry where that isn't often able to be afforded because of Crunch.
She's an advocate for all of her employees and freelancers, a voice of reason and passion, and an advocate for those who have no voice.
Paizo is better for having her in their ranks, and my only wish is that she wasn't a si gularly unique person. Because more of her light and
dedication would only improve wherever it is spread.
It's hard not to think of @Kalindlara as a force of nature. She's a whirlwind of interests, ideas, criticisms, and growing capabilities.
Isabelle is someone who I've watched grow as a writer, struggle with self-doubt, and come out the other side stronger and more aware.
She works tremendously hard and never relents once she's sunk her teeth into a project and comes at everything with a boundless energy.
She's never satisfied with "good enough" and has time and again offered to tweak projects she's worked on because she feels she can improve.
I've never met someone so eager to improve, so eager to learn, and so willing to fight for what she believes in when the chips are down.
I started out professional relationship as a sponsor and mentor and found myself learning just as much from her as she grew in the industry.
I'm thankful to always have her on my side as both a friend and a creative who is willing to reveal the horrors of the universe in writing.
That's all for now. Many more to come!
Ok, I just got out of a 🔥 meeting so I'm taking a break. Let's cover more amazing #WomenInTabletop !
If you've never heard of @bastlynn you may have, you just weren't aware. Sarah Hood has been around forever and is a titan of worldbuilding.
I first met Sarah working on Aethera and became fascinated by the outstanding detail she wrote into her fantasy ecologies and societies.
Sarah was instrumental in the creation of the Hierarchy in Aethera and the planetary ecologies of Akasaat. She helped bring a whole world to
life along with its people and power structures. She also helped develop the post-scarcity society of the erahthi and brought a perspective
to our universe that shaped everything we've done since. Her voice is powerful and her dedication to her projects is aspirational.
It's probably no surprise then that Sarah has become a mainstay of Aethera and been on every project we've done either directly or indirect
through the fascinating worlds and cultures she's created. I don't think Aethera would be nearly as rich a setting without her influence.
You might all know @BigMommaScott from her Baldur's Gate and Pathfinder work. She is the Furiosa to my Mad Max and I am ever willin to be
the shoulder she rests her gun to take the best shot possible. I've worked with Amber as a peer and as a developer and she has a level of
expertise that is outstanding. Not only is she a talented creative, but she develops and shares tools to help best practices for game design
Amber shared tools with me for adventure writing that helped calculate encounter balance, treasure rewards, XP Awards, and more.
She is an amazing collaborative and an inspiration to work with. I've learned something new every time I've worked with Amber and appreciate
both her amazing positivity and her dedication to her work that all freelancers should aspire toward. Amber is my ideal of what a freelancer
should be, and I'm incredibly thankful to be both her peer and her friend.
Ok, break is over! I'll be back with more later! ❤️
