Court: President Trump's order restricting grants to "sanctuary cities" is "unconstitutional on its face." Issues permanent injunction.
The order is here:
Judge ruled that Trump's order violated the Spending Clause and 10th Am. Funding "cannot be threatened merely because a jurisdiction has chosen an immigration enforcement strategy of which the President disapproves."
The opinion rejecting Trump's "sanctuary cities" draws heavily on the Supreme Court's ruling that DC couldn't force states to expand Medicaid.
The Obamacare case was a big step forward for conservative legal jurisprudence that's coming back to haunt a Republican administration.
