Your post about Trump acting stupid but understanding exactly what's going on made me think of an old story. It's from a book called 'Ab Urbe Condita", which speaks of the mythical creation of the Roman city 1/
In the story the last Etrurian king of Rome, Tarquinius Superbus, was busy filling the city with objects that showed the power of Rome. For example the sewer system (Cloaca Maxima), and the seats in the Circus. 2/
Anyway, as he was doing this his attention got pulled to a big snake, crawling from behind one of the pillars. This frightened the whole building crew and made people flee towards the palace in fear. Tarquinius was also afraid and sought counsel with the priests.
However, the Etruscan priests couldn't give him any advice about what was going on, and the builders believed the building site was cursed by the gods. So the king sent his two sons, Titus and Arruns, to the Oracle, because he would only trust them with the answers 4/
Now Titus and Arruns didn't care about making Rome a beautiful city. They cared about power. The only thing they wanted was to become king and stay that as long as possible. There was even infighting between them which one of the two would become the king. 5/
Well. There was a third member of the curious group that went to the Oracle in Delphi. His name was Lucius Iunius Brutus. Brutus however was a very smart man, unlike his two travel companions. 6/
He was the nephew of the king, and realized that after the death of his brother and the Roman elite, the king would stop at nothing to stay in power. So he did what Trump is doing now. He acted like he was stupid. Like he didn't know what was going on and just wanted to help.
His two travel mates hated him but they always laughed at him. I mean, who wouldn't right? You're taking your weird nephew on a trip around the world while he does some dumb stuff. So they laughed and laughed at him. 8/
Lucius Iunius Brutus even accepted the nickname they gave him: Brutus. Which would mean something as dumbass in the right Latin context. So Titus, Arruns and Dumbass travelled all the way to Delphi and met the Oracle. Titus, Brutus and Arruns listened to the Oracle 9/
The Oracle told them that whoever would kiss their mother first, would be king for life. Now this was what they wanted to hear. On the way back they were already fighting over who would kiss their mother first. Their fighting was only stopped by one thing: laughter
Laughter at Brutus because he 'tripped' and fell to the ground. So they stood around him and laughed. Brutus acted embarrassed, pushing his face to the ground as if he was ashamed. While he did this however he quickly kissed the ground. Because in his words: 11/
"The earth is the mother of us all". So he stood up and as his companions kept laughing he went back to the ship and together they sailed back to Rome. Where Titus and Arruns frantically tried to kiss their mother first. 12/
But Titus, nor Arruns didn't become the king. Huh? They thought. Something might be wrong here. But "Brutus" wasn't sitting still. He went to speak with the people, hearing their problems and being with the common man. That is when he started his revolution. 13/
The tensions in Rome had been building for a while but the royal family wasn't prepared for this. They were all surprised to see Lucius Iunius Brutus leading from the front of the crowd. The king and his family were banished from Rome and the Republic was formed.
"Brutus" became the first consul in this new republic and made the Roman elites very unhappy. They didn't want a man who understood the people in the highest office of Rome. So they came together and planned a coup. The plans got leaked however. 15/
The conspirators were all arrested and even "Brutus'" sons were involved in the plot. He did not think for a second however and ordered them all to be executed. Brutus died later on in a battle with the armies of the old king. Slain by Arruns, his former companion. 16/
But not before Brutus was able to harm Arruns too, who later succumbed to his wounds. The royalty would never return to Rome, only later, in the form of the emperors. Brutus paid the ultimate price for the republic: His life. He is now still seen as a hero in Roman democracy. 17/
Quite impressive eh? For a dumbass.... So people, the moral of this story is: Do not think of people as you see them from the outside. Because Trump is planning, plotting, and knows exactly what's going on. The old elites and lobbyists have no place in this new America. /end
