This picture, which was taken before the protest movement and has somehow come to represent it, is highly misleading #Iran
Many accounts supporting the protests (mostly from abroad imo) have turned it into the symbol of the current wave of protests, several Western media also use it as cover #Iran
Those carefully watching the protest movement would see that it does not represent the current demographic spearheading the protests #Iran >>
Many women are protesting, but most of them are veiled and clearly come from more religiously conservative segments of the population #Iran
The less conservative segments of the population (which this woman is meant to represent), in fact, seem to be hesitant to protest
The only thing this new "symbol," largely imposed from the outside, does represent is some form of "wishful thinking" from outside observers on what they'd want the current protest movement to be
This is not to say that the protest movement is not significant, it is, but this misses the point of why the wave of protests is so different from the 2009 demos
