/ @chrisjdmartin Hey Chris - ACA prohibited ins co's from discriminating against people with pre-existing conditions & required that everyone pays the same regardless of health. It also eliminated annual and lifetime limits on coverage.
/ There were also consumer protections with the mandate that prevented individuals from waiting until they get sick to enroll, which kept the balance of healthy and sick individuals in the insurance risk pool - and premiums low. Without mandate, healthy enrollees can now drop...
/ ...out of ACA-compliant plans. Remaining enrollees in risk pool would be sicker on average, forcing insurance co's to increase rates by about 10% to cover the increased average cost.
/ Higher premiums will discourage even more people from getting coverage through individual market. Healthy folks will avoid getting coverage until they need it. Worse is that the millions who become uninsured & no longer have financial protection against insane medical costs..
/ will likely not get the medical attention they need because of $. As far as bonuses go, you might want to check out the news on AT&T. Won't be the last casualty. Tax cuts for middle classes have sunset clauses - they end. But not for corps. I appreciate the feedback.
/ Good to have a healthy debate! Happy new year.
