Result: Tendons
You spring out at the creature, your teeth sinking through thick into it's tendons, you rear back with your teeth firmly clamped on the tendons, you feel something give.
"Now run cub!" the other wolf warns.
The creature howls in rage whipping round with
it's claws, it scratches your hindquarters as you run to the bushes.
The wound is not enough to slow you down but it does hurt.
The creature makes to run after you but it's wounded leg collapses beneath it. It screams with pain and frustration, it starts crawling after you, fast!
"I'd get downwind of it again cub" advises the wolf "All wounded creatures are dangerous"
You work your way around the dead stag to the bushes behind the creature.
It's brought it's good leg up under it to a kneeling position, one claw guards it the other its throat

For everyone other there treating lore from Volo and Morderkainen like it's carved in stone, remember that they're unreliable narrators, and that their sources aren't 100% accurate or free of bias. That's right, even fictional characters can have biases. #DnD #ttrpg
What do I mean by this? I mean that they're fallible, and subject to propaganda and rewritten history. Neither has the ability to "get it right" 100% of the time, and the places where the facts are kept are barred to mortals for the most part.
So when Volo describes Gnolls as being "created whole from demon's blood and hyenas", it's a pretty good chance that he's repeating back some nonsense he heard that Yeenoghu wants to the be the "known" origin of the species. That's right, this is a stan for #Gnolls thread! #DnD

Hey #DnD adventure writers, I have some advice I want to share because I haven't seen many folks talk about it and I feel that it has been integral to both my success thus far, and my writing style as a whole.

Let's talk about toyetic adventure design. Here comes a thread:
What do I mean when I say "Toyetic"?

It originally refers to "the potential media properties have for being merchandised into toys". See the wiki for it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyetic

For me (a #trpg writer) the term means "the degree to which something feels like a toy or playset"
Before writing elf games I worked in film, and before that I wanted to be a toy designer: to work for Playmates or Hasbro designing action figures. I had an eye for character designs and for elements that encouraged play and fun.

It turns out writing #DnD isn't that different.

I get asked a lot about what makes for a good DM and a good #DnD game, so I've put together some of my thoughts in this thread.

Rule #1: Speak less. Encourage your players to describe their own actions instead of doing it for them.

Rule #2: Be prepared. Run through scenarios in your head, practice voices, take copious notes, and read the source material if you are playing in an established world you didn't write. Have short encounters you can drop in anywhere to help cover for unexpected player choices.
Rule #3: Root for your players. The DM should be the PCs biggest fan. They are the heroes in this world and you should make them feel as such, even at first level. I'm not saying make the journey easy, but the people around your table should feel like you are on their side.

Okay then, I am in a hotel with two weeks worth of groceries for a family of four (really don't ask about my day) but there is wine and I've been putting this off so welcome to this evening's cultural activity! It is a reading of Amy Chua's book Political Tribes! There's wine!
I need a few minutes to breathe and start everything charging and figure out this food situation because ironically I have stuffed this mini fridge to capacity and also have nothing I could actually eat for dinner. There has to be pizza delivery to the motel near nothing right?
For those of you new to my feed, I often do things so you don't have to, and reading books that you should know exist but shouldn't spend time or money on is one of them.

Eventually I will prejudge a book wrongly and feel very chastened but I keep spinning that wheel!
