Today is the 8th anniversary of the ACA.

8 years ago:
If you were sick, not covered
If you’d been ill, not covered
Life time cap
Job changes hard
No free preventive care
Consumer debt much higher
Rural hospitals worse off
More illness undiagnosed
Less primary care

Mental health less available
Uncompensated Care much higher
Uncomp Care paid for by everyone
No essential benefits, must read fine print
Uninsured rate twice as high

Insurance policies had lifetime caps
More undetected cancers
Health insurance not suited for mobile economy
5.6 million under 26 weren’t covered, now on parents plan
Out of pocket expenses up double digits from today

I could go on. This isn’t about the ACA.

This is about our country’s ability to make positive progress for people when we work at it.

Two more thoughts:

1- We would be much further along if GOP worked to improve the law (as Americans expect) not tear it down

2- We must go further. Health care is as much of a right of all Americans as police service

Americans expect better and should demand it in November
