There have been a number of severe injuries to #TXST players over the last four years. 2015 had over a dozen season-ending injuries to players. Since 2016, a handful of players’ careers have ended due mainly to concussions. I have sources telling me this is not a coincidence:
After David Gish, award-winning TXST head athletic trainer for 17 yrs, passed away in 2014, Jason Karlik took over. Allegations say Karlik has been uncommunicative with coaches’ concerns with player’s health and is rarely on the job, regulating duties to student trainers.
Karlick isn’t around b/c he has a second job teaching classes, which might make him the only FBS head trainer that isn’t full time.

“Only time you see him working is when he is taping ankles bc everyone is needed... You will never see him on the floor working rehab.”

Several male scientists have asked recently what they can do to be better allies for women in science. I’m making this thread to collect possible answers & examples. If you have tips, advice, requests, examples etc. please feel free to add to this thread (or @ me & I’ll add it).
1. You can help call out ‘manels’ (all-male-panels) and help raise awareness of the need to balance represenation of men, women and minorities as key note speakers at conferences. (Example: )
2. When events are organized to discuss the topic of ‘women and gender minorities in science’ (such as eg ), you can attend and show your support & interest. A male collaborator of mine unexpectedly did & he asked the question that motivated this thread.

The UK has taken the lead in efforts for EU enlargement. It pushed for the inclusion of Eastern European states. It pushed for Turkey to get its shit together so that it could join (which it made very slow progress with, and has largely been undone by Erdogan)
After #Brexit, the UK will have no influence on EU enlargement. In fact, as setting the EU as a rival, every country that joins the EU will a) strengthen the EU, and b) unravels any trade deals that the UK will have made with that country, isolating it further.
