Cigna says 15% total hike in VA. Lists both mandate repeal and #ShortAssPlans among the causes.
Meanwhile, CareFirst is starting with a heart stopping 64% hike...but Optima is asking dor a 5% DROP? Huh.
since this tweet is getting attention (I’m surprised...it was an offhand tweet w/filing screenshots taken while my kid was having his viola lesson), I’d like folks to keep in mind that ~17% of THIS year’s rate hikes are due to GOP sabotage already.

⚠️ THREAD: When the dust settles on the 2019 Open Enrollment Period, total enrollments will likely be ~11.4M on exchange, plus perhaps 3M off-exchange. Of the 14.4M total, around 13M (90%) will actually pay their premiums. 1/
Of those 13M people, around 4.2 million will be unsubsidized & have to pay full price...and that full price will average around $49/month higher in 2019 than it would have been if Trump & the GOP hadn't repealed the individual mandate & opened the floodgates on #ShortAssPlans. 2/
This is the case even in states where 2019 premiums are *dropping* in 2019 (or staying flat)...they would have gone down *even more* without those changes. Many of the carriers have stated this specifically in rate filings, w/many including actuarial data to support it. 3/

Let me repeat that: 4.2 MILLION currently uninsured Americans could get #ACA-compliant healthcare policies FOR FREE.

(yes, they'd have high deductibles, but they'd include FREE preventative services, such as, blood/drug screenings, mammograms, vaccinations, etc)

Róisín’s Info Commissioner win is a great precedent but the real story is still the behaviour of the @Charities_Reg in the run up to the #Repeal vote.

They took no action against No-vote promoting Facebook pages holding themselves out as charities, even though she reported them
And when I say she reported them, I mean she supplied an entire spreadsheet full of bogus pages claiming to represent charities that didn’t exist on the Charities Register.
At the same time, the regulator wrote to at least one long-standing artistic venue and threatened to destroy its financial grounding by withdrawing its charitable status unless it destroyed a Repeal-supporting piece of art.

When I pointed out @Charities_Reg overstepped their powers to order #Repeal Maser mural removal and noted they weren’t pursuing the 20+ anti-choice fake charities I reported to them, they blocked me and refused to say why. The Info Commissioners just told them they can’t do that.
This OIC decision means that, if you’re a public body and you block someone on twitter, you have to tell the person why you did that if they ask. Your reasons might be gibberish but you still have to give it. The person can then challenge the gibberish reasons with the Ombudsman.
The CEO of @Charities_Reg has recently quit for a new big job in the Mental Health Commission so I’ll be keeping close eye on which MH hospitals get sanctioned for breaches and which don’t, but in the meantime CRA still has to account for biased behaviour during #Repeal.

My son is a Veteran of the United States Army. He went to the #VA in Salt Lake City yesterday. This was the condition of the room he was seen in. Very unprofessional, unsanitary and disrespectful. Please retweet. Maybe @realDonaldTrump will see it.

.update, the condition of the room was the way it was when he went in, no other room was offered and no attempt to clean it up was made for the duration of his appointment. No apologies offered. He received injections for a service injury during one of his tours in Iraq.

This is a thread on how the 8th amendment has directly affected my family and why it needs to be repealed. When my mother was 16, she fell pregnant with her first child /1
She was in an abusive relationship, her family had abandoned her and she was left to fend for herself and her baby alone. It was 1995, and having been raised in a strict catholic family she knew the risks of having a baby out of wedlock and especially at such a young age /2
This was a child she never planned on having. At the beginning of her second trimester, my mother contracted meningitis. It was life threatening, she was told if she lived she would never walk again but under the 8th amendment she was refused medical treatment /3

Journalists already understand that Murdoch buys newspapers for influence over elections as much as to make profit - Cambridge Analytica and similar are the same sort of duel investment but in social media world
