Peter Brown is a US citizen who was mistakenly detained by ICE after local sheriffs arrested him. We're suing. npr.org/2018/12/18/677…
In January, 17 Florida counties signed Basic Ordering Agreements, which compensate local sheriffs for their collaboration with ICE. Our lawsuit is the first to challenge a Florida sheriff for unlawfully detaining people at ICE’s request as part of a BOA. splcenter.org/news/2018/12/0…

California SB 54 endangers every resident of that state, and realistically, it's not going anywhere anytime soon
@vtdnews @SoquelCreek ICE agents issued an immigration hold against Garcia on Friday, following his arrest. The hold was not honored, however, and Garcia was released later that day, unbeknownst to ICE.
Under SB 54, local law enforcement cannot communicate with ICE or other immigration officials without a warrant signed by a federal judge, except in the case of specific felonies.

i don’t attend many albemarle county board of supervisors meetings, but i have a feeling it’s unusual for there to be nearly equal numbers of cops & members of the general public.
this email was sent out to their mailing list an hour before the meeting was scheduled to start. it’s 1:50 and they still haven’t emerged from closed session. anybody know what the last minute closed session was supposed to be about?
unsurprisingly, the closed session was to discuss legal options re: meeting disruptions. last week’s school board meeting in this same auditorium resulted in six arrests, sending one man to the hospital.

NEW YORK – Officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) arrested 65 during a 5-day period, ending July 20 in New York City, and on Long Island.
During the operation, ICE’s ERO arrested 65 individuals for violating U.S. immigration laws. 64 of those arrested, had been previously removed from the United States and returned illegally.

At the outset of the #Brexit process, most people assumed that a deal on #police and #judicial co-operation was easier to get than one on #trade. Time has shown this is not the case. Ongoing co-op on #JHA is one of the few items yet to be agreed on #withdrawal deal. Why?
Well, because the #EU and #UK's opening positions in the #negotiation are incompatible: Britain wants a #bespoke agreement with the EU, a la #Schengen, but is not willing to accept #ECJ or #EUCharter. EU wants to replicate existing models. What to do?
