There's been so much news about treatment of migrants and refugees at the U.S.-Mexico border this week that it's been hard to keep track. Some highlights:
The @HoustonChron reported that Border Patrol in Texas has been separating parents from their children when they cross the border, and one man was deported without his toddler.
Also in Texas: A Border Patrol agent shot and killed a woman crossing the border this week. npr.org/sections/thetw…
The @TucsonStar found that CBP in Arizona is referring migrant parents to federal prosecutions, tagging them, and separating them from their children, without telling them when they will be reunited. tucson.com/news/local/par…
This @nytimes report that the federal government "lost" nearly 1,500 migrant children in its care is actually from April, but the story is resurfacing today. nytimes.com/2018/04/26/us/…
The @ACLU released a report based on FOIAs revealing physical, sexual and verbal abuse of unaccompanied child migrants by Border Patrol during the Obama administration. aclu.org/news/aclu-obta…
And the @washingtonpost reported that Trump yelled “We’re closed!” -- in reference to the border -- at the DHS secretary last year, and has grown impatient at her explanations of why it's not possible to "close" the border. washingtonpost.com/politics/were-…
Worth noting yet again: the allegations made in the documents the ACLU accessed are from 2009 to 2014, exclusively from during the Obama administration.
