There is nothing illegal about seeking asylum at our border. Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy reveals the crass hypocrisy of his approach to foreign policy and undermines our credibility as a country that, for decades, has upheld human rights.
Rather than address the root causes of conflict that are driving families to flee, Trump has perpetuated dangerous instability in our own backyard -- slashing funding for good governance and development and now making families pay an unconscionable price.
This is not who we are. By diminishing our standing and credibility in the eyes of the world, Trump tarnishes what it means to be an American and hampers our ability to shape world events for the better.
