3/ while i wasn’t there for the dot.com bubble, this article circa 2000 could be written today about crypto. tech that changes industries and markets doesn’t get built overnight. there are fits, starts, and failures.

1/ let's talk about today's @MakerDAO / @a16z announcement. for those who missed it, A16Z's crypto fund bought 6% of Maker tokens for $15M, at a 25% implied discount to the current price of $MKR.
2/ according to a blog post, the $15M will be used to fund the next 3 years of operating costs. i'm sure people think this is a great sign for the project - being able to recruit high quality capital. but, i think this is a massive failure in governance and project management.
3/ no vote was conducted on this matter, despite governance being a core tenant of the project: vote.makerdao.com

instead, a team decided to sell a large portion of tokens to one single investor without consulting other $MKR holders or communicating with their community.

2/ investors in the crypto ecosystem saw everything go up and to the right. everyone in the market is feeling good, and worth a lot on paper. everyone outside the market is feeling FOMO, and wants in on some juicy returns. the narrative is "blockchain, make me money!"
3/ everyone starts looking for the next #bitcoin, #ethereum, #ripple. people begin to believe that the market will go up and to the right forever, and investors flush with paper returns from the crypto casino rush to multiply their money at the shitcoin roulette wheel.

Note: MC is not always the best metric for valuation purposes. Also, most altcoins/ico's have not yet survived an extended bear market. Missing this critical validation period, this serves more as a tool to observe where the market is in its current price cycle 2/

Crypto moves of July & August are something to laugh about and make market participants throw everything but technicals & momentum out the window.
1st rally on fakenews about an ETF that won't happen
2nd crash on an ETF rejection that was no surprise
3rd crash on an ETF postponement that was no news
4th rally on failure to tank on ETF rejections that were no news

All very rational. #crypto
Should replace there "was not news" by "should have been no news". The market's inability to process information efficiently is one of the key points.

1/ #Bitcoin's been falling for 9 months now (Dec 2017 - Aug 2018). From 2013-2015, $BTC fell for 14 months (Dec 2013 - Jan 2015) before bottoming.
2/ #Bitcoin then consolidated during Q1-Q3 of 2015, making it ~2 yrs of mostly bearish sentiment from the mainstream.
3/ #Bitcoin broke its trading range in November 2015, rising 55% in 84 hrs, which I would argue was the very beginning of what would be a 2-year bull market. forbes.com/sites/samantha…
