One of the biggest divides in politics right now isn't Democrat/Republican, but a polite political class in Washington that prioritizes things like civility and optics in a way an increasingly enraged public does not
And in the same way members of that political class, which includes professional Ds/Rs/and media, were among the last to recognize the rage that was driving Trump through 2016, the civility fetish blinds some to fully understanding the anger Trump has ignited in response
Trump, I would posit, is actually one of the pols who best understands DCs prioritization of civility is not one reflected by public. And that some of his supporters are not backing him in spite of who he's insulting and how, but because of it

For all our profession's both sides-isms, I wish we called this men's rightsy stuff "identity politics" in the same way we would if, say, a woman politician talked about her experience with sexism
Think of the last two days: the alarmist anti-immigration rhetoric at the TN rally, the ban on visas for diplomats in same sex marriages, and this men's rightsy rhetoric about Kavanaugh
Even if we take the conservative definition of "identity politics," which is roughly, governing with things like race/gender/sexuality overtly top of mind -- Trump, and his trademark rhetoric, fit the definition squarely, and are likely one of the practice's greatest proponents

First off, he is not a threat. He only has 4,000 followers on Twitter, and only gets an average 150-250 plays per YouTube video he puts out. In the big scheme of things, he barely makes any impact at all.
But why does he spend so much time hating on #Qanon and the anons following Q?

It’s quite simple really, it’s a tactic called “rage trolling”.

About ten years ago, late at night, a heavily armed tactical team of eight tall muscular men approached the front door of a house in Phoenix, Arizona, apparently, to serve a warrant. If you would have seen this team, your brain may have registered the familiar image of a SWAT
team we see in the Media: Bulletproof vests, Kevlar helmets, black boots, and Phoenix Police "raid" shirts on top of their body armor. With pistols and AR-15 rifles, the team broke down the door of the house without announcing they were the police, or that they had a warrant.

one of my biggest problems w politics, esp the dc-based media/politics nexus is the fakery. its so much like wwe wrestling when real lives are at stake and the players get really upset at the people who insist that this stuff is *real*.

1. Welp, so much for #civility: LET'S MAKE THIS GUY FAMOUS. Last night, at a French bistro in NYC, I got into it with this old white man in an American flag t-shirt who loudly "joked" to the waitress, "I'm going to tell Trump to deport you, hahaha, I'll tell Trump to deport you!"
2. I said (in a firm, calm voice), "Sir, that isn't funny and it's not ok. Don't joke about deporting people," that his waitress didn't deserve that treatment. He began screaming at me, "IT WAS A JOKE!" I said it wasn't funny but dangerous, that he shouldn't talk to ppl like that
3. Mr Civility, screaming, staring me down, irate: "DON'T TALK TO ME! YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO TALK TO ME! WHO TOLD YOU YOU COULD TALK TO ME!?"

Me: "Well, don't threaten to deport people and I wouldn't have to talk to you."
