The ones calling for civility are often the most uncivil among us. #Thread
Civility is a double edged sword. In normal times, it's necessary for society to function. If we're all fighting with each other nothing gets done. But factions in society also use it as a tool of social repression by accusing those who are complaining of injustice of being rude.
Don't be uppity, members of our society are told.
Civility loaded the box cars to the camps. That's not to judge the people who were loaded onto the box cars, they didn't know what was coming. But we do them a disservice but not learning from what happened to them and being civil in the face of fascism again. Never again.
Things are not normal in our country right now. The President is openly attacking Due Process, the very foundation of our legal system for centuries. Babies are being jailed, children ripped from their parents. The President cuddles with dictators and jeers our democratic allies.
Now is not the time to be civil. Now is the time to fight for the Republic that the President wants to destroy because it constrains him. We must be uncivil now, if we ever want civility to reign again in this country.
