One question every single Democrat should ask Trump's eventual Supreme Court nominee:

"Trump has toyed with the idea of pardoning himself or his inner circle if they are prosecuted. Will you recuse yourself from any case that, directly or indirectly, affects his power to do so?"
I believe that is the most compelling reason Trump should not be allowed to appoint a justice at this time.

Not because it's an election year. Not because that justice is sure to be radical.

Because it's a conflict of interest for a potential defendant to appoint his own judge.
I absolutely believe Trump's choice of Supreme Court nominee will rest, in part, on who he thinks will end the Mueller investigation for him.

It's not the only thing he'll consider. But it's a big part of it.

And that would be a shattering blow to the rule of law.
I guarantee whoever he picks will call that question an inappropriate hypothetical.

It's not.

A nominee who cannot instantly answer "yes" is unqualified to be a justice. I don't care what law school they went to or what bench they served on. They're a threat to democracy.
Senate Judiciary Democrats should be relentless. If the nominee refuses to answer, ask again.

They should not allow the nominee to leave the Senate chamber until they've said "yes" or "no."

If they must, they should bodily stand in the door and block them from leaving.
