A young Russian boy was suffering a form of Cancer. He wrote to President Vladimir Putin requesting the President visits him as a dying wish. President Putin visited him in the hospital & the boy complained of absence of medical facilities to treat him. He died shortly afterwards
When Putin learnt of his death, he brought in German Doctors who specialised in the ailment the young boy died of & commissioned the building of a Specialist Hospital for that ailment. It was built & named after the boy, Dima Rogachev Oncology Specialist Hospital.
Because of that hospital, cases of child deaths from Cancer-related ailments have dropped by 90% in the region. German Doctors still run it, training their Russian counterparts. It is also a Teaching Hospital for Doctors to Specialise in the field of Oncology.
From recent memory, President Babangida suffered (suffers) Radiculopathy, Pres. Yar'Adua died of Pericarditis. Only God knows what ails President Buhari. What effort has been made to deepen learning in these fields to ensure less people die of the same ailment?
Mrs. Yar'Adua raised Billions to build a Cancer research Centre in Abuja. What is the current state of that Hospital? If our leaders cannot build a Hospital to even selfishly treat their own ailments & those of others, how will they care about young lives?
Oh, by the way, the National Hospital in Abuja was built by Mrs. Mariam Abacha. Originally named Mariam Abacha Hospital for Women & Children. It is arguably the best equipped Hospital in Abuja today. How many more have been so built? Couldn't we proceed from there?
