Let's talk a little about #history, #language, and #languagechange. Many of the world's languages evolved from historical #protolanguages and have sister and cousin languages in their family, similar to how animals are classified.
For example, #English is a #WestGermanic language within the #IndoEuropean family.

Meanwhile, languages like #Basque are #isolates, meaning they have no known language relatives. There are some fringe theories about Basque, but none that are widely-accepted.

Today I'd like to talk about jet streams, atmospheric turbulence, and climate change.

Why do we even have jet streams? At any fixed altitude, the north-south temperature difference between equator and pole causes the eastward wind to increase with height (wind shear).
You can check out the current positions and speeds of the jet streams interactively at earth.nullschool.net. (Change height to 250 hPa to move up to the altitudes where they typically blow the fastest.)
Jet streams move around from one day to the next and vary in strength. They play a crucial role in steering weather systems as well as aircraft (which enjoy the tailwinds on eastbound flights, but try to avoid the westbound headwinds).

Why does this climate change impact on phenology matter? Because it means that the regions TODAY that are best suited for the grape varieties planted there may not be the best in the coming decades
So what can we do about? Lots, it turns out.

Many unionists are under impression Irish language is heritage of Irish nationalists, republicans or Catholics only, but they're mistaken. Irish has unionist and Protestant history too. Even today, unionists like @ErvineLinda speak Irish.

Here's a thread on some of that history.
Some unionists dismiss the Irish language as a "foreign language", but Irish is not "foreign" to the north of Ireland. It is as native to (all the counties of) Ulster as it is to Connacht, Leinster and Munster.
Ulster was seen as the most Gaelic part of Ireland until defeat of Ulster's Gaelic chieftains, who fought in opposition to English encroachment during Nine Years' War from 1593 to 1603, and Ulster plantation led to the "unruly" Gaels of Ulster being brought under English control.

Before I start on the places, the history around all this is fascinating & splits opinion. Is it apt to call the script Tamili/Tamil Brahmi? Did it develop independently in the Tamil country/come with the Jain monks from the north? Were 8,000 Jains actually impaled in Madurai?>
