Trump, in the UK, deals a double blow to Theresa May, saying her plans for a soft Brexit would end any hopes of a trade deal with US, and suggesting Boris Johnson, who quit her cabinet earlier this week, would be a better leader than her.

Trump didn’t respond to press questions about his remarks to The Sun.

But in bilateral mtg with Theresa May, he insists: “We had a dinner where I think we probably developed a better relationship...The relationship is very very strong. We really have a very good relationship.”
Theresa May, in a very soft voice, responds in the bilateral meeting that the United States is “our longest standing” partner.

Most of her comments to Trump weren’t audible for the short period reporters were allowed in the room, per @justinsink.
It’s in US and UK’s mutual interests to have trade deal and Brexit plan won’t kill chances, Foreign Office Minister Alan Duncan told @BBC.

“I don't think it will kill the deal...Absolutely no reason legally and practially why a trade deal between us and the US cannot happen.''

BREAKING: Trump has discussed firing Federal Reserve chief Jerome Powell as his frustration has intensified after this week’s interest-rate increase and months of stock-market losses.

Advisers close to Trump aren’t convinced he will try to do it, but say he wants to.
Trump has talked privately about wanting to fire the Fed chair many times in past few days.

Any such attempt would have potentially devastating ripple effects on markets, undermining investors’ confidence in Fed’s ability to shepherd the economy without political interference.
It’s unclear how much legal authority the president has to fire Jay Powell.

And at least one of Trump’s economic advisers, Kudlow, has said a president can’t fire Federal Reserve chair without cause.

That hasn’t stopped Trump from expressing his desire to get rid of Powell.

 Thread to explain why, strange as this sounds, (& many still don't get this!) - there are no hard Brexit MPs. Even Mogg & Johnson are kind of soft brexiters. Both wanted frictionless trade with EU & no real economic change.

So what happened?

 What Mogg, Johnson & rest wanted was a "soft Brexit on UK Terms". They were so sure this would happen that they barely considered what wld happen if there "hard Brexit talk" didn't result in a "soft Brexit on UK terms".

Thus the fight is not btwn hard & soft Brexit but btwn..
3/ the fight now is btwn those that want to accept reality of situation: that the longed for soft Brexit occurs on EU terms not UKs - and those that are "winging it" for something they never actually wanted & do not yet understand but have talked themselves into...

If there's one thing that we know, it's that no majority voted for the kind of Brexit we're heading for.

Some of us can breath a sigh of relief, but it's tinged with frustration - there's no point to this #Brexit, but it's the only one possible
2) it will be clear to most of us that the Unicorn #Brexit promised by Leave (no cost Free Trade deal on our terms, no negative impacts) was always impossible & simply a ruse to get votes.

Leavers have to accept that they fell for it to a greater or lesser degree
3) to those who say "no, we knew what we were voting for", well, you may say you were voting for a hard Brexit but based on chats on Twitter most of you were still actually voting for an "on our terms" Brexit
