I genuinely want to know if there are people who screamed bloody murder about Facebook's data privacy issues but who also used one of these 23&Me kits. I will never understand why people use these. You're literally giving your DNA to a for-profit company.
I mean, yes, our data should be private when we want it to be. But why are so many so upset at the ethical implications of seeing an ad for a thing you might want to buy but I see virtually no outcry about the ethical implications of handing over YOUR LITERAL DNA?
There is ZERO DOUBT in my mind that giving your DNA to companies like 23&Me will absolutely lead to health insurance companies rejecting you because your chance of developing cancer is statistically higher according to your DNA.

(But OH NO I saw an ad for shoes I searched for!)
