The English language version of Dragon Quest XI will change fan fav character Martina's name to "Jade." If you're upset about this, don't blame Square Enix. US law actually requires that all sexy raven haired Asian women martial artists who wear green must be named Jade.

You gotta admire the author's commitment to upholding the old American comics trope where dialog in brackets indicates the character is speaking a language other than English. This happens a lot in a comic about Japanese people in Japan!

Throughout my career in videogames and animation in general, I often hear this hoary old chestnut:

"Only Western style art is mass market. Anime and everything else is niche"

It's this out of touch attitude that results in the butchering of something as iconic as Sonic.
Certain forces behind the film (and it's most likely from up top, not from the individual artists--don't go blaming them so fast!) are so arrogant that they believe their arbitrary meddling will result in improvements to classic time tested franchises.

RIP Norifumi "Kid" Yamamoto, one of the most talented and explosive fighters to ever step into the ring. He was like a fighting game character come to life, competing at the highest levels of combat sports. He will be missed.

Longtime fans of MMA will recall that during the 2000s Kid Yamamoto was an absolute killer in the ring.
While the stereotype for Asian martial artists is one of stoic honor and discipline, Kid was known for his expolossive athleticism and raw ferocity (as you can see from this flying knee, one of the flashiest KOs of all time)

Found this big bad beetle boi on my porch the other night. It's a Xylotropes Gideon aka Thai fighting beetle (my fav animal)! Looks like our dogs had already found him and roughed him up a bit. He was writhing on his back covered in dirt, but these things are built tough!
I put him in a plastic bin with a longan (we have longan trees in our yard and they're everywhere this time of year). I left the top open so he could leave at any time.
When I checked in the next morning he was still there going to town on the fruit!

Right, so tomorrow is International Mother Language Day, and partially because I wont be at @LonGaeilge to waffle on about stuff in Irish, I'll waffle a bit about #IMLD here in English
I've no idea where this waffle will go, I'm just doing to lash into it without any direction in mind. #IMLD started in Bangladesh. Bangla is a language that is of central importance to #IMLD and to me personally.
If it wasn't for #Bangla, I know for certain that my #Gaeilge would not be what it is. It was when I started to learn Bangla that I also started going back to learning Irish.
