Imagine writing a theory of how socialism became cool again and never once using the word “recession”. Noah can. Instead, it’s because of sloppy language, or perhaps due to the fact that millennials have no memory of Stalinism.
Ultimately it’s about exonerating the status quo. Just like blaming Dems’ sloppy use of the racism charge for GOP bigotry is a way of exonerating 20th century conservatism. In both cases, it’s deeply and lazily self-serving.
