1. Today my partner and kids sat behind a table of seniors having lunch. We got to sit and listen to them talking about upcoming elections. And how we're being hurt by Indians and immigrants and the Chinese.
1. Today my partner and kids sat behind a table of seniors having lunch. We got to sit and listen to them talking about upcoming elections. And how we're being hurt by Indians and immigrants and the Chinese.
2. As we sat with our indigenous kids we were treated to older people talking about how they would vote for parties that would make sure immigrants and minorities would stay in line and 'follow the rules.'
3. They ate their lunch cooked and served by immigrants, sitting beside aboriginal children, discussing how they would vote to keep immigrants and minorities from wanting too much.
After they paid their bill, after arguing about some item on the bill, they left. And I followed. And outside we had a conversation.
5. I let them know their words were heard. And as they were served by 'immigrants' sitting next to 'Indians' their words were clearly heard. And they hurt all of us.
6. They hurt us, my step kids, their servers, and them because we're all in this together. And that those words and actions were not the manners taught by my small town or my grandparents.
7. The man apologized and his wife acknowledged their words. I wished them a good day and walked back into the diner to pay our bill, still shaking with contained anger.
8. This is what we are against. These people will be voting. These people want their white standard to remain the authority. See something. Say something. AND VOTE.
9. Vote like your life depends on it because it does. As does the life of my step kids and their friends. /thread
