Today we are chatting about imposter syndrome. That sense that we aren’t qualified. That we are faking it. That we will be exposed for not knowing what we are talking anout. We’ve yet to meet any creator that didn’t suffer from this at one point in their lives. If not every day.
We should know as it’s an endless struggle for us on so many fronts. Whether we are talking about writing, audio engineering, sound design, community growth or what have youl. I say this because so many creators we speak to are afraid it is just them. It’s not.
The only way to build craft is by doing. And that means we are all stepping out from “the known” and then somehow a label is applied. And then it is so easy for our brain to question whether we belong.
Labels are a construct but they feel real and carry weight for a reason. Society is built almost entirely upon them. And it’s easy to judge ourselves somehow inadequate. But I want to remind each of us that we are not lacking. Our stories matter.
I don’t believe the feeling ever goes away. But if we stand together, and refuse to let the voice in our head single us out, perhaps we can learn to embrace the feeling as a sign that we are telling the stories less told. And that we are anything but alone.
Great video. Thanks to @MottelZ for the find!
