Ha, looks like I really pissed off the Kremlin "information weapon" (to quote its own editor-in-chief).

They hate it when someone reveals how they work by citing actual evidence.
Looks like this is what triggered them. @thetimes on the role of Sputnik's parent company, which is to "secure the interests of the Russian Federation in the information sphere."

Sputnik claims that doesn't apply to them. Seriously.

@Twitter and @Facebook both just announced takedowns of a small number of inauthentic assets, possibly tied to state actors.

Here's @TwitterSafety's take on it: a small number of assets, possibly state-linked.

15 accounts so far, low follower numbers, engaged in coordinated platform manipulation.

And here's @fbnewsroom: six accounts, nine pages. Taken down for coordinated inauthentic behaviour, i.e. a network of counterfeit accounts.

BREAKING: UK telecoms regulator @Ofcom finds Kremlin broadcaster RT guilty of violating the rules on due impartiality seven times in six weeks, post-Salisbury.

"Serious failure of compliance." Sanction being considered.

For context, RT violated the rules on due impartiality and due accuracy with 10 programmes between 2014 and 16, so 7 in 6 weeks is a major escalation.

Violations concerned reporting on Ukraine, Crimea, Turkey and Syria.

Important to note that over the same period, @Ofcom found at least eight RT programmes +not+ guilty of violations.

THREAD // Life is about finding fulfilling work, not saving up enough money to never work again.

When I first discovered the concept of early retirement (save up enough money in 10-15 years to never work again), I thought it was the solution to lasting happiness and bliss.
I hated the idea of working 40 hours per week in a cube for 40 years doing work I found pointless, so stacking up enough savings to never need a cubicle job again seemed like a great idea.
But the more books, articles, podcasts, and videos I consumed by people who had actually quit the rat race at a young age, the more I noticed a trend: each of these people experienced a "void" in their life.

1. I like many people get spun up by a lot of “breaking news.” It is a natural emotional reaction for those paying close attention to current events.
2. But then that’s PRECISELY what the political agitators behind fake news stories want. They wish to obfuscate the truth, protect the Deep State, and divide and dispirit their opposition.
3. Facts are hard to come by these days, given the media's propensity to go with "unnamed sources" who have obvious political agendas. We have witnessed this many times since 8 Nov 16.

I realize the #justicekavanaugh confirmation has been a hyper-partisan issue (that by itself is very concerning for a Supreme Court nomination) 4 wks now but why have the #Hamilton68 Russian influencer accounts spent so much oxygen on this? Like #BeersforBrett ?
We looked at our roughly 310 Twitter accnts that we reversed engineered as #Hamilton68 accnts (described at dashboard.securingdemocracy.org) and we created wordclouds 4 various segmented categories of our Hamilton68 accounts over the past wk & highlighted them related 2 Judge #Kavanaugh
The first set we looked was our set of #Hamilton68 accounts that focus on Russian geopolitics. 14658 tweets were analyzed over a period of a week and #kavanaugh was the main hashtag promoted as it related to Judge Kavanaugh

Many people have taken issue with @Nike's use of the phrase "sacrificing everything" with Colin Kaepernick's face, when others have made greater (or different) sacrifices for what they believe. I can understand that initial gut reaction.

But here's the thing:
"Sacrificing everything" is a fairly common figure of speech and rarely means literally sacrificing everything. It's almost always used figuratively in some kind of context, signifying giving up something major in exchange for something more important.
Nike is an athletic brand. Becoming an NFL QB takes an enormous amount of dedication and effort. So in the context of an athletic brand's marketing campaign highlighting an athlete who lost **everything he'd worked his lifetime toward as an athlete,** the phrase makes sense.
